Educational Travel: Islam Tour of Israel

Around A.D. 610, and approximately 800 miles from Israel, one man’s mystical experience in the Arabian Desert was about to change Israel and the world.

In a cave outside Mecca, in what is now Saudi Arabia, a trader named Muhammad had a vision of the angel Gabriel. The prophet proclaimed that the angel swept him on a winged horse to the temple in Jerusalem where he had an encounter with Abraham, Moses and Jesus.

Since then Muhammad’s historical impact has been immense. His teachings, and the Islamic faith, have spread out of Arabia, producing a civilization of intellect and stunning beauty. Much of this expansion was the result of conquest, carried out by swift horses and fierce warriors.

Israel, now holy for Muslims, Christians and Jews would become a focal point of cultural conflict and holy war.
